Oak Cliff Nature Preserve
Only Trail Stewards should change condition or edit this page (but feel free to add condition comments in the forum below) Check out this GPS track and trail description.
Oak Cliff Nature Preserve now has 8 miles of trails which consists of 6 loops. The trails cross 2 creeks that runs through the property 14 times, including 5 wet water crossings. DORBA relies on volunteer labor to blaze new trails on their projects. The trail consists of a variety of open fields, and wooded areas. In the spring the feilds are wall to wall wildflowers.
They refer to these volunteer outings as work days. Work days typically occur on Saturday mornings where volunteers are asked to meet at the site around 8 am and choose a task. A recent work day saw 18 volunteers who used rakes, shovels, limb cutters, and other equipment to blaze 0.7 miles in one morning. Work days typically end around 11 and the group shares in some food and beverage before riding the trail. Anyone interested in helping to maintain the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve trail can contact Tex Maniac on this site.
To get there from Interstate 35E, take Illinois west, and just past S.Hampton make a left on Pierce. Go past the houses and black fence, turn left into the back of the apartment complex, and make a right at the gate (dirt drive). Look for the sign on the fence. On weekends overflow parking is done on the street. There is a trail head off the street as well.
Location
Only had time for one lap but it was a good one! Loop 3 is what everyone is complaining about. It`s got some mud, but it`s not sloppy wet mud. It`s the kind that`s like sludge that make you grind through it 3 gears lower than you should have to be in LOL. It just made the loop more work than it should be. My bike is no more muddy now than when I left the house.
I`m there. 9:30am.
Tacky in areas, a few slick corners in loop 1 & 2. The second half of 3, had an
area that is super muddy and very slick. Just ask the racer boi and his muddy kit.
Had standin water since Sunday, but took care of that this morning. If you choose to ride it be aware that you WILL pick up a lot of mud.
Or you could skip all of 3 and do 6.5 twice.
Looks like two days of riding before the next freaking round if rain.
What is the status of this trail? Four days of sun...are we good? Please let us know.
Is it safe to assume that by Saturday we should be ready to ride?
This freaking rain, just won't stop. If it wasn't for the rain today, the trail would have been open. It was drying up nicely.
Well, the last status update was on my birthday (3 weeks ago). I`m not hoping for much, but is there ANY chance this trail will be open sunday 2/28?
I was browsing the Bicycles Plus website and noticed this Demo presentation at your location.
