Oak Cliff Nature Preserve now has 8 miles of trails which consists of 6 loops. The trails cross 2 creeks that runs through the property 14 times, including 5 wet water crossings. DORBA relies on volunteer labor to blaze new trails on their projects. The trail consists of a variety of open fields, and wooded areas. In the spring the feilds are wall to wall wildflowers.
They refer to these volunteer outings as work days. Work days typically occur on Saturday mornings where volunteers are asked to meet at the site around 8 am and choose a task. A recent work day saw 18 volunteers who used rakes, shovels, limb cutters, and other equipment to blaze 0.7 miles in one morning. Work days typically end around 11 and the group shares in some food and beverage before riding the trail. Anyone interested in helping to maintain the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve trail can contact Tex Maniac on this site.
To get there from Interstate 35E, take Illinois west, and just past S.Hampton make a left on Pierce. Go past the houses and black fence, turn left into the back of the apartment complex, and make a right at the gate (dirt drive). Look for the sign on the fence. On weekends overflow parking is done on the street. There is a trail head off the street as well.

hi, has anyone been out there since it rained? wondering if OCNP got much since other trails are closed. thanks!
all the water bottles, tubes, goo packs, yellow caution tape, arrows left over from the race
I'm thinking about heading to OCNP this weekend. For a rider who doesn't know the trail out there, what are the things/challenges/technical spots to watch out for?
I'm in East Dallas and we got a bit of rain this morning. I'd like to try out the trail this afternoon with a friend of mine. Just moved up from Austin and looking for some good trails. What's the difficulty level? Any drop-offs, hills or rock beds? Also, do you know if the trail will be open this evening around 6:00? Thanks
PM sent. OCNP got just a passing drizzle...should be fine this evening. What trails have you rideen since moving here? what was your favorite Austin trail?
OCNP is a beautifully crafted trail. This this 7.7 mile single track has a nice mix of slow undgelating downhills and light climbs you have to make ... to get to the next downhill. There are no rock gardens and some low drop offs. Just about any skill level can ride there, the only dangerous thing... is the speed you can accumulate. If your looking for a beginner trail try LB Houston in West Dallas.
I don't know how much rain OCNP received, but if Tex-Maniac says it's open... it's open

rode today, it's amazing how hard the heat and dry weather can be on a trail. Not to mention, the over enthusiastic racers preparing for the upcoming race. I also noticed, the trail is littered with dozens of empty water bottles, for those douche bags eager to shave off 2 seconds from their lap. The trails aren't there only for those involved in time trials... I like to ride fast too, but come on, let's show a little respect to everybody else who loves to ride... especially those who've created and maintained this wonderful trail
The rain last week did wonders... the conditions are exquisite.
Rode this morning and the trail is marked. I rode the Cat 1/Cat 2 course. The trail is fast and dry. It was still hooking up well in the corners! There was lots of people riding the trail this morning. Saw some old friends I haven't see in a while. Go have fun and stay as cool as possible.
cheers
Geoffrey
This note is for TEX-MANIAC... thank you, and those who helped in the design and up-keep of this wonderful trail. I recently rode another trail in ocnp's general vicinity, A trail that I used to enjoy. This trail was considered one of the few actual mountain biking trails in the DFW area. I realize every trail has its own "character", but tired, sloppy and old aren't positive attributes.
Thank you for giving those of us who love trail riding a choice.
