Oak Cliff Nature Preserve now has 8 miles of trails which consists of 6 loops. The trails cross 2 creeks that runs through the property 14 times, including 5 wet water crossings. DORBA relies on volunteer labor to blaze new trails on their projects. The trail consists of a variety of open fields, and wooded areas. In the spring the feilds are wall to wall wildflowers.
They refer to these volunteer outings as work days. Work days typically occur on Saturday mornings where volunteers are asked to meet at the site around 8 am and choose a task. A recent work day saw 18 volunteers who used rakes, shovels, limb cutters, and other equipment to blaze 0.7 miles in one morning. Work days typically end around 11 and the group shares in some food and beverage before riding the trail. Anyone interested in helping to maintain the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve trail can contact Tex Maniac on this site.
To get there from Interstate 35E, take Illinois west, and just past S.Hampton make a left on Pierce. Go past the houses and black fence, turn left into the back of the apartment complex, and make a right at the gate (dirt drive). Look for the sign on the fence. On weekends overflow parking is done on the street. There is a trail head off the street as well.

Found a multi tool today around 6:30 (1830) in the middle of the trail. PM me with a description if you think it's yours.

Looking at doing my first race here in a few weeks. I rode two back to back laps one being 44min the second of 46. and thats doing the 6.5 section. I ride a single speed 29er and was wondering if these times would be competitive. What are other peoples times? I'm also debating of doing cat 3, or cat 2 single speed. Any input from more experienced racers would be appreciated.
Great questions. I'd also like to know.
Last time I rode there I did 4 loops without the 6.5 section with a single 30 minute rest in the middle. My slowest is about 40 and my fastest was a low 38 something. Would I be competitive?
I'll have to do the 6.5 section as well and see what times I post when I get my replacement frame.

Thank goodness for the breezy hot afternoon today. Walked some of the trail this evening around 7:30. A few tacky spots and slick areas, but they should be dry by tomorrow morning. Trail should be in excellent condition in the morning.......if the rain stays away.
I would like to say that I saw a few riders this morning with caked tires and told me that the trail was ridable. They mentioned that the roots, climbs and bridges were slippery and some turns were slick, but it was ridable. Bola de pendejos. As usual, you have a few that don't give a $%#& about tearing up the trail, as long as they get their ride in. Thank goodness for KARMA!!
I rode today about 2pm.. I didn't realize it was closed. The trail wasn't muddy, but it was very slick and wet. There will be no speed records broken out there today. I rode a couple of loops, then bailed. I didn't want to inadvertantly damage the trail. With as warm as it is, the trail should be great tomorrow.
Shadow is correct, but it appears to be more than what is showing on NOAA. Probably more like an 1 1/2. Tires are caking up and that is just before you cross the first bridge. Saw a couple of riders that bailed after getting to the bridge. More rain in forcast for today. Will post update later this evening.
Thanks for the update. I was going to ride this afternoon. Would have been a wasted trip.

NOAA shows it got about .94...almost an inch....no good for Sat. BC got .58.....but it looks like most of it missed Boulder
In an earlier post I thought I read that the trail was going to be marked for the race routes... Has this been done or did I make all that up in my head?? Thank you
