Oak Cliff Nature Preserve now has 8 miles of trails which consists of 6 loops. The trails cross 2 creeks that runs through the property 14 times, including 5 wet water crossings. DORBA relies on volunteer labor to blaze new trails on their projects. The trail consists of a variety of open fields, and wooded areas. In the spring the feilds are wall to wall wildflowers.
They refer to these volunteer outings as work days. Work days typically occur on Saturday mornings where volunteers are asked to meet at the site around 8 am and choose a task. A recent work day saw 18 volunteers who used rakes, shovels, limb cutters, and other equipment to blaze 0.7 miles in one morning. Work days typically end around 11 and the group shares in some food and beverage before riding the trail. Anyone interested in helping to maintain the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve trail can contact Tex Maniac on this site.
To get there from Interstate 35E, take Illinois west, and just past S.Hampton make a left on Pierce. Go past the houses and black fence, turn left into the back of the apartment complex, and make a right at the gate (dirt drive). Look for the sign on the fence. On weekends overflow parking is done on the street. There is a trail head off the street as well.

If the rain stays mild enough for the trail to be open I~ll be there tomorrow. Been riding BC lately, and the climbs at BC make oak cliff look like a parking lot...maybe even go for a PR out there. I Love OCNP`s flow!
Rode this evening and it was oh so hot. It was also very very dry. Be careful in the turns. I almost wiped out taking several at speed. Heading back tomorrow around noon if anyone wants to join up.

I bike OCNP and also have been running with my dog there. Best times to bike there - this time of year, it would have to be early morning. I ran this morning with my dog and it was much nicer than at 5pm @ 108degrees. Only 1 problem bout going down the trail at 7am - spiders!!!
Somebody should put a sign up to not put spider webs across the trail. And these spiders are big enough you can see them bout 5 yards (when running). If you are on yer bike, you'll have picked up about 50 passengers by the time you are done!
Trick is - bring a buddy and let them go first!!
As for times - i'm not in as good as some of these demons out there (plus my bike weighs bout 40lbs), but i think if you are clearing a lap around 35mins, you're doing pretty good!! I do think they post race results somewhere on this site.
Enjoy!
Road today, trail is in great shape. No tacky spots at all. Does any know what a good time is for doing one lap on the entire trail. I am trying to get a feel for the upcoming race what an average is for other riders, verse where I should be.
Cyclometer found at the Creek Crossing #5... identify it's maker and model____________________and serial number! (jk)
I'm not familiar with the brand so I don't know if it is functional as it will not turn on... had a few scratches from folks riding over it.
Found at around 9:30am... and before the Race Clinic rode thru.
Caution LARGE tree down across trail just before 1st bridge.....chain saw tommorow
A little dry but much fun. Thanks for your help in showing us the trail Shadow.
The light rain yesterday made for great trail conditions this morning. Was a bit humid for me, but I still had a good time.
cheers
Geoffrey
The rain last night made OCNP perfect today, incredible and fast.
anyone in the area know how much rain has fallen in the OCNP area this evening? Was going to try to ride in the morning..
