CAT3 Racer from OCNP

On Sunday, August 22nd, while competing in a race, Ralph Bailiff, Jr. collapsed, and later died at the hospital. From all indications, it appears that it could have been a heart attack.  The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to those who provided medical attention and care. Ralph loved his DORBA and FWMBA friends, and the family is grateful to those who were there for him in his final moments.

Joint DORBA/FWMBA Agreement

In a mutual show of support for both organizations, DORBA and FWMBA (www.fwmba.org) have agreed to allow members of either organization to take advantage of mermbership discounts for any club/organization sponsored event.

As an example, starting this weekend, the DORBA sponsored North Texas Series, all DORBA members, and now FWMBA members, can enjoy a member discount.  When FWMBA sponsors an event, DORBA members can enjoy the same discount as FWMBA members.

At the April Board meeting it was decided to make sure that DORBA membership was informed of the ongoing discussion with the City of Dallas and DORBA.

Currently, DORBA has three trails in the City of Dallas which are governed by an agreement with the City of Dallas, i.e. LB Houston Park, Boulder Park, and the new Harry Moss Park.  The City of Dallas has asked DORBA to enter into a new comprehensive agreement to govern the current trails, as well as future ones.

The Ultracentric promoters have been working to get their permits and sanctions in order and in the last several days have provided me with the following:

Additionally, DORBA has been given this guarantee by the Ultracentric MTB Race Director:

Sansom Park Race is CANCELLED.

It is again with great disappointment that I must report that the DORBA Board in conjunction with the FWMBA Board, and the Race Director has decided to cancel the North Texas Series Race at Sansom Park on Sunday, November 1st.

New North Texas Series Race Director Appointed

Luke Simsonsen has resigned as the North Texas Race Series Director. Luke leaves the position with the thanks of the Board, membership, and racers.

With two races remaining in the series, the DORBA Board has asked Ben Thornton to step in and serve as the Race Director for the North Texas Series. He has accepted, and was appointed by the Board in an Executive Session.

If the weather holds we are all looking forward to the race on Nov 1st at Sansom park in conjunction with FWMBA.

Cry Havoc and Loose the Volunteers

The North Texas XC Series is upon us.  After an ambitious and successful series from 2008, the 2009 NTX hopes to be even bigger and better.  While DORBA is not an organization that is focused on racing, the races DORBA does host provide DORBA with over 60% of its annual funding.

Good Luck Ray "1+1=1" Porter!

Ray heads off tomorrow for a jouney of epic proportions.

He plans to ride from Canada to Mexico via the Great Divide Route.  All the info is here if you like to watch:  http://tourdivide.org/

So wish him well, and we all look forward to the Big Story when he returns.
