Knob Hills is closed!
DORBA Members: During the last week information has come to light regarding the trail conditions at Knob Hills. The Army Corp of Engineers (land managers of Knob Hills) has closed the trail indefinitely. Trail damage and erosion are the primary reasons for closure of trails on public land. The Army Corp of Engineers are the land managers of Northshore, Horseshoe and Knob Hills trails. The ACOE has a responsibility to protect and preserve public land from erosion and damage. Concern for the environment permeates all of the ACOE and its decisions are generally supported by environmental laws, Executive Orders, and regulations. Environmental protection is an essential consideration in all of the property the ACOE is responsible for monitoring. This decision is NOT based on actions by DORBA. In fact, the ACOE is relying heavily on DORBA to help get the trail opened as quickly as possible. DORBA’s relationship with the ACOE is on solid ground (so to speak). DORBA is committed in working closely with the ACOE on a coordinated and cooperative plan to repair, improve, and redesign Knob Hills. However, the speed in which we can open the trail, will be based on DORBA’s volunteer efforts. Over the next couple of weeks, the DORBA BOD will be appointing a new Trail Steward for Knob Hills. In conjunction with Dave Gray (VP of Trail and Advocacy), the ACOE, and some help from the Northshore Trail Stewards, we will get together a plan of redevelopment for Knob Hills. If you want to get involved with this effort, please do not hesitate to contact Dave Gray (DG in the forum). Should you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me directly, Rich

I moved to Flower Mound a year and a half ago. A big part of my decision to move here was based on being so close to the North Shore Trails (and Knob Hills). Recently, for some odd reason I've been really concerned about loosing these local trails (I guess that's the sort of thing that happens when you have a baby, you know, worrying about passing down the cool things to your kids....). Looks like they've started on the west side of the lake first, so please keep me in the loop on future work days. I hate to see Knob Hills, or any local trail closed, so anything you guys need, please let me know.
Let us know when and where the trail work is starting and we will post up the information on the website and alert the troops. If you need some mechanical support, Bicycles Inc Keller is not far from Knob Hills.
Count us in! Me personally and Sun and Ski Sports
My father passed recently and I have alot of catching up to do at work, but I will do what I can to help. Someone needs to take the lead. I would love to take over, but I fear I cannot commit the time that is needed.

The Local Shops servicing that trail are:
The Bicycle Path - Denton
Bonsai Cycle Werx - Keller
Mad Duck, and Bikes Plus are not to far out of the vicinity, either ...
Dorba should consider, asking Gary and Brian as Im positive they would participate and claim ownership during and after the revitalization phases.
Just a suggestion.
Thanks
Steven
I work at Bullseye Bike Shop in Denton (former location of BikeORama) and have been talking to Kevin, one of the owners, about getting a group together to help with trail renovations. We'd love to help, so keep us updated.
I would be happy to help as well, PM or email me at : cantwinjj@gmail.com

Bluebonnet Cycle has also expressed a strong interest in helping and providing swag for organized KH workdays. Sounds like we have tons of support ready to revitalize KH once the Corp is ready to proceed.

So Knob Hills does have a new trail steward right?
Seems so but have not heard much as far as a plan goes to put all this help in motion...By the way im in for helping out whenever we move forward!!!!
