Any last minute updates from the good Pedal Housing?
Channel 5 news is doing stories about the marathon....Just did a feature on 8 year old Cody McCaslan(sp?), a wheel racer. We are not worthy!
See everyone in the monring.
o'dark early!
What a great experience. I escorted Courtney, a woman from Sherman. She did the half marathon in about 2:45 on a hand trike. All of the runners were incredibly gracious.
Hey PH Dave, thanks for the opportunity.
Indeed, it was a great morning and a great experience. I escorted a young man Jason. This was his first half marathon. The first couple miles were a struggle for him as he had alot of nerve pain and I'm sure the cold didn't help that any. Then his straps on his hand grips broke and he didn't have the right tools to fix them. But once he got into a groove it was all good.
The other runners were indeed very gracious, accomodating, and a great source of encouragement...until we merged with some walkers I think towards the last couple miles of the route. They got to hear me bark out orders like General Barbie as they walked 4-6 abreast across! Some were not very appreciative of me being bossy but that has to be their issue not mine. I just needed to make sure Jason stayed safe as he finished up his race. Which by the way he did in way less than 2 hours!
Thanks PD....heard you've been ill...I hope you are feeling better!
Folks,
Please accept my apologies, I got sick and was in Baylor most of last week, and into the weekend. I apologize for the no show, I did get a call early Race morning, but whoever it was, please forgive me by then I was on the good meds. Sounds like it went well. There is a half White Rock n Roll later this month, just sayin.
Dave
Justin sent me a note, asking for an e-mail address for the rider that was with him...anybody know?
Dave
Just throwin this out there, Rock n Roll Half Marathon is Sunday, we might need a couple of riders...not sure yet, it seems that their registration showed 50 some odd wheels, but they doubt that number is anywhere north of 7-8. Just taking a roll on those that might be interested in a little escort service work.
Dave
It would be an honor. Count me in.
I can do Sunday with honor. I keep hearing this is on Saturday tho...
I can't get a straight answer on what kind of head count they have, nor the help that might be needed. I am going to meet with the volunteer coordinator Sat morning and will post up here as to firm numbers and requirements.Thats the best I got.
Dave
I would be in for Saturday but I am out for Sunday
The website for the event says the 14th which is a sunday on my calender
Have fun everyone.
Ok,
I met with Jennifer Nanista Cell# 619-990-4892 Blackberry addy Jnanista@competitorgroup.com
We are 5 Heatwave, Pista, Tish, Bobby, and me.
I have volunteer packetts in hand, with badges, and pass's, and a shirt
She has asked that we meet at the V.I.P. Corral, which I believe to be just east of the convention center, near where the park and statues of the "Longhorn Bulls" are at 7:am, where she has also asked the wheels to meet, and organize.
There are some ten other riders, she wants to pair some bikes up with the elite runners, and celebs, and lead man / woman runners. I told her we had a special interest in the wheels folks, so I am thinking they come first. None of the other riders have any experience at this is her comment...for what that's worth.
I will be in the parking garage early, and will have your volunteer packs at the VIP corrall when you find your way downtown. Parking will be a challenge, so I am considering the train from Mockingbird Station, first run is just after 6:am or so.
That's all I got.....See ya there.

All,
Tera from the Cowtown Marathon, would like your e-mail addresses so she can keep up with, and be a bit more prepared next year. They are fine folks over there. Please, if you like reply to her inquire, if you think it worthy, personally, I do.
Dave
Her note is below...
Hi Dave,
I was wondering if you had some of the names and email addresses of your volunteers who came out to help us at Cowtown.
They were great and I wanted to forward some photos to them.
By the way, may I have a mailing address for you?
Thanks again for all of your help!
Tera Galindo
The Cowtown
Great to hear from you Dave!
Actually, please mark your calendar for Saturday, September 25th just in case anyone is interested. It won't be a long ride, but we'd love to have some escorts for our C.A.L.F. 5K Run to be held in Trinity Park.
Perhaps y'all could come help us escorting the lead runners and hopefully some racing chair participants and then take a nice long ride along the Trinity River.
Just let me know what you think.
Thanks so much,
Tera

I shot her an email a couple days ago but no reply as yet. Hope I'm not sitting in her junk email box!
David Finfrock - channel 5 weather - says 36 degrees and no rain for the start on Saturday. Up to 50 degrees by 11:00AM. Can you say, layers?
