did anyone hit it Sat? I'm going tomorrow and was looking for an update.
Rode two laps today. Its wet. You will get some mud. Only a couple of rutted areas. nothing you wouldn't see on a local trail from time to time. The ground is solid under the standing water. Water is mostly in the back on loop c and d. Nothing like the dirt around here. Well worth the drive. May be even dryer by sunday.
that's the problem.....few people not bad but the more that ride it like this the worse it will get......I do not want to be part of the problem...so I'm bailing. I was out there once many weeks ago....couldn't believe the ranger opened it.....they keep doing this.....they're going to have to shut it down and go in and do a bunch of reroutes because they've caused to much damage.
The Trail was great today! Got out early met a couple cool guys out there and had a great time definitely not to wet to ride... I know a lot of people put hard work into making these trails what they are and i appreciate it very much! I just think we need to reevaluate the open and closed status of our trail system if folks think Tyler is to wet to ride .

Sounds like a NEW trail steward to me. What trail do you want?
Knob Hill has been closed due to damage from riders and Samson Park is looking real bad also from what I hear.

THANKS Spell Checker
LOL.
I only notice as I was sternly corrected by a resident of the area about 15 years ago for the same thing.
I did a few laps but to be honest the trail was too wet. I rode it because driving 4 hours is not that much fun to arrive and go back but I wouldn't have opened the trail.
I felt a little bit guilty so I will do trail work whenever is scheduled
Other than that and a flat...nice!
I saw park rangers? re routing a portion of the trail.. new section?
My guess is it was too wet....exspecailly with rain in the forecast. I was there several weeks ago because it was open......and I wouldn't have opened it if it was up to me.......but it was...so I rode.
But yeah, I felt a little guilty. What people do not understand is....while yes it may not stick...riding it while loose and muddy only loosens it more....now all that loose top soil will wash away. I also am guessing maybe the ranger is planning to re-route all the bad areas so he is not to worried...figuing these spots will need to be fixed anyway. But bottom line is...if he opened it...go ride it......I just chose not.....kinda be silly for me to be yelling at people on my wet trail if I was seen on one......LOL. Plus, I hate to have to clean the bike on Monday.
As far as " I just think we need to reevaluate the open and closed status of our trail system if folks think Tyler is to wet to ride".....wrong. The fact that the ACOE has shut down Knob Hill due to errosion and damage is proof we need to be careful.
DONT GET ME WRONG......if ranger opened it...cool go ride. But understand.......you are damaging the soil......maybe the ranger has a long range plan. People jump on the NS steward about not opening it fast enough.......he has take the Corps interests seriously......and they are very enviromentally minded.
I have also rode the OC when raining and Mellow Johnny's when muddy.....yes damage was done.....but they knew it going in and were Ok with having to fix it...my guess is there is some major repair and rerouting planned for Tyler. I do remember hearing talk about it a while back from one of the trail builders I know.
I went to Tyler 2 weeks ago and it was very good. Today was very wet to the point that I had to stop in each lap to clean drivetrain and at the end of the ride (3 laps) the soil was softer and muddier than in the biginning
Shadow, would you agree to say that some people cause more damage to the trail than others? or not?
I have ridden with some riders that just "throw" things at you, knocking everything out of the way into you, and some that seemed to "glide" and not touch the trail (metaphorically speaking)
Qoute: (3 laps) the soil was softer and muddier than in the biginning
That's what we have to deal with when we open one too soon. I've stopped guys at OCNP who said...it's not that bad......I try to explain to them ......yeah sure for 1-2 guys...open it on a weekend.......it's gonna look like crap after a hundred guys do mutiple laps. Ever been to a beach and pitty=patted your feet.....draws the water to the surface......same thing here.....more riders on it....wetter/muddier it will get.
And your glide/throw situation probably has a lot to do with the tires/tread pattern. Yes big knobby tires are going to damage a wet trail more.
I think we don't understand the damage that we do to the soil and most are itching so bad to ride that think we will not damage it
I think that a campain to create awareness would be good since I don't think most do it on purpose, just are unaware of the damage

Hey...if the ranger opens it.....he must be cool with it....so don't sweat it. All landowners have a level of tolorance...some more than others. I was just pointing out to those that rode thinking they weren't hurting anything....yes you were...but the ranger was allowing it. I just don't want people to think that if Tyler allows it.....we should on Dorba trails as well......nothing could be further from the truth.
Hey listen I'm not going to argue that wet trails cause damage, but what i will argue about is the manner in witch our trails are deemed "Ridable"
As far as " I just think we need to reevaluate the open and closed status of our trail system if folks think Tyler is to wet to ride".....wrong. The fact that the ACOE has shut down Knob Hill due to erosion and damage is proof we need to be careful.
All this is proof of is miss management and disrespectful riders not that the system doesn't need some overhauling because no ones system is perfect . If we need some Stewards I would love to get involved as long as it doesn't turn into drama. I'll keep my eye out for some trail work days and hopefully meet you all soon ...
Yeah I get your point, just saying that education is the best weapon
Anyone who thinks riding muddy trails doesn't cause damage to the trail itself should have ridden at Warda this weekend. The first few laps the mud was just slippery and easy to ride. By lap three and four half the trail was mud that would suck your wheel down straight to the drive train.
As far as Tyler now, in case anyone was wondering, I can tell you from the rain at my house today that the trail will not be open today, tomorrow, and probably not this weekend unless we really do get some serious sun.
Apparently it is open... must have gotten a lot less rain than my house that is 10 miles away from the park. My back yard is a MUD PIT. Hopefully the sun will stay out this week and dry everything out. I would imagine that the sand pits at the park are sketch but everything else is probably okay today.

PM DG (Dave Gray) and let him know you are interested. We have a few openings if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for the offer!
Keith Hargis posted up on FB that the trail is open, but not exactly dry. You will get muddy. There is one large mud spot that has to be walked thru. I'm still debating whether I want to head out there tomorrow.
