Never been to Palo Duro. Anyone know what it compares to around here?
Nothing you've seen here.
I camped out there years ago. I did not ride any trails but they looked like hard pack with some sand. There are very few trees and I did not see any big climbs but it did look like a geat trail. I hope I can make it out there for the race it is a great place to visit. Just think of the Grand Canyon on a very small scale.
Looks like a good venue, but no races anywhere even close to the north side of DFW? Do most of the people making the decisions live down south or are there scheduling issues with IDB, JB, Erwin,.... etc?
I'm surprised to see that Boulder was not included again. Parking issues? I would have liked to seen Boulder instead of CHSP. Oh well...
Also don't understand why there is no break between Palo Duro and Sansom.
Do we know what the start times and distances are for each class?

We where wokring with the city of Dallas to work out a parking soultion but ran into a snag. We will contiune to work towards getting boulder to where it is a viable XC race venue but yes parking is a large part of it. It was the parking soultion that fell through.
As for the dates with Palo Duro we are partnering with the Old Tascosa Cycling Club (they will be the club hosting the event) and they picked the date that was best for them. Hopefully next year with ealier planning we will be able to avoid the back to back weekends
Do we know what the start times and distances are for each class?
Cat 1 9am 3 laps
Cat 11 am 2 laps
Cat 3 Noon or 1pm 1 lap (I am leaning towards 1 o'clock)
Distances will vary but plan for between 8-12miles per lap
all of this information is very raw and maybe tweaked abit so please bear with us while we get everything hammered out. The information above is what we did last year.
AUG. 9th?
Are there going to be rain dates?
AUG. 9th?
With DORBA most races not being run on trails that can be run rain or shine I am pushing to move the races into the dryer (hotter) part of the year. We stand a better chance of pulling off races in the dryer months then we do say later into the fall and winter. Seeing as how last year 51% of DORBA income came from racing I want to do everything I can to ensure that DORBA stays flush with money.
Are there going to be rain dates?
No rain dates, we might swtich a venues to a differnt date but if a date is rained out one event will be dropped. With each rain out the scoring will be adjusted to reflect the shortened series
I've never been out to Palo Duro. If me and my brothers were going to try to get out there for a weekend to ride, can you point us to the right place to ride? Are we talking about the trails in this Palo Duro Canyon State Park Map? http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/media/park_maps/pwd_mp_...
Maps of the trails would be great, but any info have would be appriciated.
thanks,
David

Yes the trails will be in Palo Duro State Park. See below I am sure Karie will give you all the information you need and possiblly a tour if you contact her
Hello everyone! I am the promoter for the Palo Duro Canyon Race, Steve Burton is the Race Director. We are really excited to have all of you come race at Palo Duro Canyon. It was voted one of the best places to ride in the state of Texas. The trails are very well maintained with lots of beautiful trees. We hosted a TMBRA Cross Country race for the last two years as well as a TMBRA Marathon race this fall. Lots of pictures to see online! Check it out!!!
See you all in October. In the mean time, if any of you want to come preview the course, email me at Karie_golds@yahoo.com or Steve at clc-amarillo@sbcglobal.net; we would be happy to show you around.

Hey, guys. I'm fairly new to all of this, but I'm getting to the point where I would like to get involved in some organized competitions. What do I need to do to get involved in the August 9th event? Is there registration? A fee? Any help would be appreciated.

As the race dates get closer, online registration will be opened. I do not know what the fee will be, but in the past it was $25 or $30. You can also register on the day of the race as well. In addition, you can also sign up as a volunteer to work parking/feed stations/registration/course marshaling/etc. if you choose too. Many racers volunteer in the morning and race in the afternoon, or vice versa, depending what category they race.
Keep checking the site and the info will be posted.
Is this a points series race for overall
yes
I have only been out to Oak Cliff around a handful of times and I did all of the trails when I've gone. However, I went yesterday around 1pm and did the backwards route. The sign said that if you took all of the left hand turns you "should hit everything". I'm not sure where the heck I went but at Whiskey Crossing #6 there was a tree across the bridge that I had to climb over with my bike (no fun) and my computer had said 6.8 miles which took me what seemed to be an eternity to complete (59 minutes). Am I missing a turn somewhere? Will the trail be better marked on race day? Seems like unless you ride there all the time there would be people taking turns they shouldn't....
?
It's On!!
