Description
Erwin Park is a city of McKinney public park. The trail is just around 8.1 miles. The trail is a mix of tight and twisty in the woods to some fast open field sections. There is plenty of climbing to get you heart rate up. Since you're going up, there are some fast and fun downhills as well. There are some technical sections and most of the technical sections have alternate (easy) routes around them. The trail does have some dips. The last section of trail is called the expert section. There is an alternater route to your left crossing a bridge (left - easy; right - hard). This is the only alternate route with a bridge. Camping is allowed for a very nominal fee. Contact the city community center at 972/542-0045. They are located on the north bound service road of central, north of Eldorado Parkway.

Just finished up - didn't appear to be a race, but there was a decent size beginners class out there...perfect riding conditions - go ride!!!
Dang so is the trail closed this Sat. morning due to a race? I've been sidelined for two weeks and wanted to head out there! What's the story?
the trail conditions are spectacular... moist, yet firm. I did a 41 minute lap. I know, most of you are scoffing, but it's fast for me.
The trail is currently primo! Getusum while it last, which won't be long! I did two laps and my legs didn't get dusty! The rain the trail got yesterday did it good!
cheers
Geoffrey
Dry to very tacky in parts. Under the trees there are some very tacky/slick corners. No rutting, just wet on top, the roots were extra slick because of the tires carrying just enough mud to make it interesting. Tomorrow will be perfect.
It looks like Erwin got .2 inches of rain (looking at the closet weather underground station). Its my guess that Erwin is unridable this morning and should be dry enough to ride by 5 (maybe earlier).
cheers
Geoffrey
I left the trail around 6:30 pm as well. There were 2 trees down blocking the road in 2 different places. I had to move the tree to make a room for my van to pass through. If the trees were not cleared you might need to find a detour to get to the park. One was on Co road 1006 and the other was on Co Road 164 (west of 943). You may need to come from north side of the Co road 1006.
finished riding about 6:30, it rained like crazy for about 15 min... hard.
If it's hot and doesn't rain tomorrow, should be good by evening.
I rode Erwin early this morning (Friday August 20)--- very good condition. The bit of rain we had yesterday just made the trail slightly tacky -- zero mud or standing water. Get after it ... Joe Mueller
Rode a lap this morning. Trail in great shape but starting to get loose. It sprinkled in McKinney as I was leaving. Hope it hit Erwin as it will kill the dust.
